Sakura Spotlight Series: Juliet Schroder

Juliet Schroder turned her one-woman blog, Celeb Secrets from a fun side hobby to an exciting career in the fashion, beauty, and entertainment industry. Not only does she get to attend and report on most of the major awards shows, but she gets to travel all over and meets some amazing people while doing it.

Tell us a little bit about your business and what you do.

Celeb Secrets, is a digital media outlet covering all forms of entertainment. I started the business as a side project when I was fifteen years old blogging about some of my favorite and local acts in music, TV, and lifestyle. The blog blossomed into an actual media outlet once I was in college, so my role of blogging a few times a week changed pretty quickly. I now serve as the business’ CEO, where I oversee our entire team and projects. I’m also the brand’s on-camera host for all digital content and lead executive producer for both digital and editorial content.

What made you aspire to be an entrepreneur and why did you choose your industry specifically?

Before I started Celeb Secrets, I was a dancer and very involved in musical theater (as well as a pop culture junkie) so that was what drew me to the entertainment side of things. I also built my own blogs for myself and my friends in middle school, so I combined two of my favorite interests and started the brand. Since I was so young, I knew it was not possible for me to work at one of the big brands, so I started my own to gain experience in the industry.

What is the one thing you wish you had known before starting your own business?

That things take time and everything happens for a reason! Sometimes you need a few “no’s” to get you motivated for a “yes,” and if you really put your mind to it, you’ll achieve all of your goals.

What are the aspects of your business that you enjoy the most?

Celeb Secrets has brought me to places I never would have dreamed, so I would say I love the travel part of my job. I am so thankful for all the opportunities that I’ve received and the projects I’ve been able to work on! I also really enjoy hearing feedback from our audience, whether it be the viewers, the talent, or their reps. Knowing that my work has reached so many people is always so rewarding, but hearing how much people either enjoyed watching or working on the project with me is the best feeling in the world.

What do you love doing in your free time to refuel and have fun?

Running a business is very demanding and can burn you out pretty easily. For me, the best way to refuel on a day off is to first catch up on sleep and unplug. Once I’m well-rested and depending on where I am, I’ll reach out to some friends or family and spend some time with them. Whether a day out on the town or a night in, I’m with the people that matter the most to me and that’s when I truly have fun.
