As the owner of DESUAR Spa, I run daily operations and am very hands on.I oversee each transaction, do payroll, training, hiring, create an alluring menu, check in clients, answer phone calls, assist with social media and digital marketing. I as well meet with vendors and the media. When necessary I take appointments, do inventory, perform massages, facials, waxing and many other body treatments.I even vacuum the floor and clean the toilet if needed. Whatever it takes to get the job done!

  1. What made you aspire to be an entrepreneur?

I knew I wanted to be in the beauty and wellness industry from an early age. I dreamt of one day having my own business and being able to serve clients. As an adult I tried to do the 9-5, and I just didn’t fit in the corporate environment. My creativity didn’t mesh well with that sort of work atmosphere and my ideas where very unconventional.

I wanted to be my own boss. For instance doing whatever I want, whenever I feel like it. I didn’t want my lifestyle to run by having a regular 9-5 job. I am very confident in my talents and after taking time to travel around the globe I knew I wanted to make an impact in this world. After spending a lot of time in Africa and helping underprivileged children, I wanted to come home, work hard and with my success, help those children’s lives improve.

  1. What is the one thing you wish you had known before starting your own business?

There’s a lot of hype about having a flexible lifestyle, but the truth in entrepreneurship is that you’re going to work really hard and long. So don’t choose this way of life thinking it’s a shortcut.

I learned that everything takes time and things will move very slow. Making money isn’t easy – it’s actually very hard, which is why most people aren’t rich.

To make money in business, you have to get up and hustle for it. You need to give up on a lot of those things that you love the most to be able to make space for bigger things.

That I was not going to be able to dine out as frequently as I did or buy as many shoes. That it would literally take me 5 years to make money! And that with any business, you need to know the art of the sell.

  1. What are the aspects of your business that you enjoy the most?

The challenges; every day I have to push myself to overcome new challenges and meet goals. The sense of accomplishment like when I am up against the odds and have limited time to get it right and then it turns out better than we imagined, such an amazing feeling.

And of course, helping others. It is so rewarding to see my customers leave with a happy face. Knowing we were able to help someone and make a difference in their life. I love how the industry is always changing and is so innovative. I get to see those changes firsthand and evolve and grow with my industry.

  1. What do you love doing in your free time to refuel and have fun?

Aside from studying, being a mom and spending time with family. So cherishing each of these precious moments is so important to me. Spending time with my son motivates me to want to be better and work harder.
