Sakura Spotlight Series: Borrow My Vintage
Macy Krall didn’t realize that her love for thrifting and photography would lead to running a successful business with her husband. She, like most entrepreneurs didn’t follow a set of rules or direct path, and we happen to think that sometimes, that sort of fearlessness can create the best and most one of kind businesses. And that’s how Borrow My Vintage was born.
1.Tell us a little bit about your business and what you do.
My husband and I own and operate Borrow my Vintage, an event rental and styling company based in small town, Iowa. We decorate weddings + events all over Iowa. We do everything from delivering rentals to setting up for the whole thing.
2.What made you aspire to be an entrepreneur?
Before starting Borrow my Vintage, I first began as a wedding photographer, so I was familiar with being an entrepreneur and an entrepreneur within the wedding industry.
3.What is the one thing you wish you had known before starting your own business?
Again, I kind of knew what I was going into since I already owned another business. I felt I was equipped with all the “behind the scenes” knowledge I needed to start up another. And everyone who knows me will agree, I tend to just start something quick and figure out the details later! But never be afraid to ask questions! I have so many friends in the wedding industry and I can ask any of them for help or if I have any questions.
4.What has been the most successful avenue for building and growing your brand/business (social media, ads, word of mouth, referrals, etc.)?
I would say that word of mouth + referrals have been the most successful avenues for building my business and building lasting and trusting relationships with my clients as well as other vendor friends.
5.What are the aspects of your business that you enjoy the most?
I most enjoy seeing the vision come to life – the end design is so rewarding, and I love seeing my clients celebrate the best day of their lives!
6.What do you love doing in your free time to refuel and have fun?
In my free time, I love to go thrift shopping, spend time with my husband, decorate our 1904 Victorian home and be a puppy-momma to Corah + Frankie.
