Sakura Spotlight Series: Lauren Salz
Lauren Salz, along with her husband, Brennen, might be just what you would consider a power couple. Working together as a team through their business Salz Home Solutions, they know exactly how to navigate the complex real estate market for their clients, all while making their marriage a priority and making time for a little bit of fun.
Tell us a little bit about your business and what you do.
My husband, Brennen Salz, and I co-manage our home buying, selling, and styling team. We specialize in assisting first time home buyers and first time home sellers across the Northern Colorado Front Range. Because Brennen and I work together on every contract, for every client, every time, our clients benefit from having twice the negotiating prowess and twice the hours in a day.
What made you aspire to be an entrepreneur?
Both my husband and I are blessed to have been raised by entrepreneurs. My dad was a realtor, and my mom owned a retirement community. Brennen’s parents fixed ‘n’ flipped over 200 homes in the Phoenix area throughout his childhood. Brennen’s mom was a licensed real estate agent at the time, so their family could save on commission and closing costs. So, we’re both second-generation agents, and we grew up in the business. We understand the ebb and flow of a commission-based lifestyle (err…household). The freedom provided to us as entrepreneurs — the freedom to create and the freedom to dictate our own schedules — is what drew us to the business. The feeling of self-reliance followed by self-assurance is what keeps us in the business. It’s both exciting and fear-inducing all at the same time.
What is the one thing you wish you had known before starting your own business?
Fear, fights, late nights. That’s the bottom line. BUT… If I had known this, I’m not sure I would have ever started. If you’re looking for a real piece of advice, I’d go with this… 😉 I wish I would have known — like really known — that the likelihood of making literally no money for a decent while is very, very real.
What has been the most successful avenue for building and growing your brand/business (social media, ads, word of mouth, referrals, etc.)?
Social media is the best way to cultivate credibility and is the best space for relationship-building (our clients are mostly Millennials!), but the greatest profit-driver is word of mouth referrals.
What are the aspects of your business that you enjoy the most?
Some of our dearest friends are past clients! The relationships we build with our clients, their families, our preferred lenders, etc. is really what life is about.
What do you love doing in your free time to refuel and have fun?
My husband and I both love golfing — it’s the thing we love to do either together or separately. We also love traveling and we just returned from a trip to Disneyland with our best friends.
