Spotlight Series Q&A for Entrepreneurs

Leah Rozendaal is the definition of a GIRL BOSS. She has always been a creative and learned early on in her college career that she could learn a lot from the strong women she knew in leadership roles. It stuck with her and helped shape her into the savvy businesswoman she is today.

  1. Tell us a little bit about your business and what you do.

I am a videographer and own Leah Rose Productions. I film all types of videos ranging from real estate videos, dance recitals, weddings, promotional videos, and music videos. I also convert VHS tapes to digital for home movies for families wanting to preserve their memories!

  1. What made you aspire to be an entrepreneur?

I realized during my internships in college that I gravitated towards working for female entrepreneurs and learning their story behind their business. I am an enneagram 4 and yearn to put my own creative spin on my work to make it stand out.

  1. What is the one thing you wish you had known before starting your own business?

I wish I had known how much it becomes your life. It is hard to turn it off and on, especially when on family vacation. It’s not something that I can just “leave at the office” when I am done for the day. I absolutely love it, but it can be consuming!

  1. What has been the most successful avenue for building and growing your brand/business (social media, ads, word of mouth, referrals, etc.)?

Word of mouth and referrals! I interned at a bridal boutique in college helping with fashion shows and bridal shows, as well as photo shoots. At the age of 19, I made lasting relationships with vendors two years before I started my own business, and they still refer me 5 years later!

  1. What are the aspects of your business that you enjoy the most?

I love telling peoples’ stories. I love when viewers have an emotional reaction to my work. I love meeting people. One of the biggest compliments is when someone comments on a wedding video saying “I don’t even know this couple but I am bawling!”

  1. What do you love doing in your free time to refuel and have fun?

My husband and I love going out to the family lake house whenever I have some free time to go boating, and be with family. We love going on motorcycle rides in our new town (we just moved in April), and I love doing anything with our Corgi, Rosie.
