Sakura Spotlight Series: Victor Castro
Spotlight Series Q&A for Entrepreneurs
- Tell us a little bit about your business and what you do.
One summer, while living on the north island of New Zealand, my friend suggested I start coding websites professionally. It has been a journey ever since. I am Victor Castro, born and raised in San Diego, and co-founder of Bloctheorym – a digital marketing agency. We create ways to connect businesses and people together using website-based marketing (SEO, social media, email, PPC, etc.) and great brand design.
- What made you aspire to be an entrepreneur?
The idea that I can have full control of what I build and the outcome depends on my efforts and failures really intrigued me. Being able to do what I love, whenever I wanted and wherever I wanted motivated me to start working for myself.
- What is the one thing you wish you had known before starting your own business?
That it is not very hard to start one but it is very hard to maintain one. It takes late nights, sacrifice, and research to get to the point where you start understanding your business. Also, it is one of the most rewarding careers to have.
- What are the aspects of your business that you enjoy the most?
Since I can remember I have always loved to direct projects and groups for a unified purpose. Bloctheorym gives me the opportunity to help connect with many people and businesses, to grow a relationship and see results. The digital landscape is everchanging so being able to adapt and grow year after year is great and really keeps us on our toes while looking forward to new technologies and trends to consider.
- What do you love doing in your free time to refuel and have fun?
I love spending time with my family, traveling, playing with my kids outside, or having movie nights with food and popcorn.
Outside of that, I really enjoy finding new music to listen to, drawing, reading, and learning new things in my spare time.
